Llandudno Photographic Society

Chairman’s December Letter

Croeso. Welcome.

\r\n \r\nWe are now nearing the end of the first half of the season which I feel has been very successful and the standard of photography has been excellent. It is pleasing to see that our newer members are gaining awards in the Club Competitions.\r\n \r\nI would like to thank everyone in supporting the club, especially our secretary Doug Braisby for all the work he has done in keeping members well informed of the club’s activities.\r\n \r\n Special Dates For 2009.\r\n \r\n 10 January – Family Fun Day at Venue Cymru, Llandudno.\r\n\r\nOur club will be participating in this event. San Sior School and one of our members have already volunteered to help in our club’s workshop, however, to make our part in this event exciting we do need more ideas from our members. If you are interested in assisting please contact a member of the Committee.\r\n \r\n 3 March to 19 April – Exhibition of Photography at Venue Cymru, Llandudno.\r\n\r\nThis prestigious event will give the opportunity for our club to show the world our capabilities. Each and every one of our members will have the chance to exhibit a piece of their work, including our junior members of San Sior School. This is an occasion not to be missed. \r\n \r\nI would like to finish by wishing all our members and families a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.\r\n\r\nAlan Foulkes\r\n\r\nh3. Gwyn’s Gossip\r\n\r\nHello everyone, some news about our invalids. Dennis is recovering slowly having broken his hip when a rogue cat went for him. He is now able to walk to town using just one stick. The cat got into his house again. Dennis foolishly tried to shoo it out, so it went for his leg, all teeth and claws! Fortunately he had thick trousers on, so not much damage this time. He has had a Christmas dinner at the Queens Hotel. Hywel I hear has a slipped disk. We as a club hope for a speedy recovery to them both.\r\n\r\nFor the first time we entered the Pixels competition, with two Colour and two Black and White pictures. The Gwynfa camera club host this event. Only Three clubs from North Wales entered: Beaumaris and Menai, Wrexham, and Llandudno. The clubs from the south dominated the high positions. Out of the 36 clubs who entered, Tenby and District came out on top with 70 points. Wrexham and Beaumaris ended 2 points above us. We came in 29 th place. The Grwst camera club gained revenge, having thrashed them last year by about five points!! We had the usual great welcome along with an excellent buffet. As usual, two of us won raffle prizes.\r\n\r\nWe were once again invited back to a battle in Bangor, hosted by Beaumaris and Menai. Fifteen of us went along, six cubs competed for the title. Unfortunately we ended the evening as the strongest club, holding the others up, but only by one point. It was an exciting battle with Dwyfor and Beaumaris and Menai joint first place, having used their two reserves as they were still level. As last years winners, Dwyfor held on to the trophy. We saw some good photographs – some a blast from the past, but they scored well.\r\n\r\nMerry Christmas to you all,\r\n\r\nGwyn.\r\n
